About World Trigger
World Trigger is an anime series based on a manga of the same name by Daisuke Ashihara. The show follows high school student Yลซma Kuga, who finds himself pulled into a secret organization known as Border. The border is a defence agency whose mission is to protect the world from mysterious creatures called โNeighborsโ โ beings from another dimension that can enter our world through portals and wreak havoc if not stopped. Along with his new allies at Border, Yuma must learn how to use Triggers โ weapons powered by a special type of energy known as โtrigger powerโ โ to battle the Neighbors and protect humanity from their destructive impulses.
The World Trigger anime is full of exciting action, adventure, thrilling battles, and suspenseful moments that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. It features some great animation, quality voice acting, and an interesting storyline that explores themes such as friendship and loyalty between its characters. Fans of sci-fi anime will find a lot to love in World Trigger.
The series also offers plenty of fan service for those who enjoy it. There are many lighthearted scenes featuring Yuma and his friends at Border and romantic moments between some of the main characters. In addition, plenty of humour throughout the show helps to add some levity to the otherwise intense storyline.
According to a 2016 survey conducted by Oricon, World Trigger sold over 1.2 million copies and was ranked as the 20th best-selling manga. In a reader’s poll on goo, the series was voted the fifth most likely to become a Weekly Shลnen Jump signature series. Trigger was voted the 14th most popular manga series in the Manga Sลsenkyo 2021 poll, with 150,000 people participating to select their top 100 manga. The manga has over 15 million copies in circulation as of October 2021. The anime series was ranked tenth in the Tokyo Anime Award Festival’s top 100 TV series of 2016, and during NHK’s top 100 anime voting, it tied with Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare for the 158th spot out of 400.
In her review, Rebecca Silverman praised the manga series “World Trigger” for its natural distribution of information instead of relying on info-dumps. However, the first season of the anime adaptation received negative feedback for Toei’s poor production quality. Gabriella Ekens from Anime News Network called the handling “incompetent” and “baffling”, further stating that the show itself is not bad, but the adaptation was terrible.
The show aired its second season from January to April 2021, followed by a third season from October 2021 to January 2022. Fans have been waiting to hear about World Trigger Season 4 since the series ended; however, announcements are yet to be made about the same from the creators’ end.

World Trigger Season 4 Release Date
As of July 11, 2023, Toei Animation has not officially announced World Trigger Season 4 release date. However, we are optimistic that the series will return for a new season in the future. The release date will depend on Toei Animation’s chosen release schedule, and currently there is only enough source material (4 volumes covering 35 chapters) for a 12-14 episode season.
