About The Rising of the Shield Hero
“The Rising of the Shield Hero” is a dark fantasy isekai light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi. It was initially published as a web novel on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Now posted by Media Factory, the series includes illustrations by Seira Minami and an expanded storyline. So far, 22 volumes have been published. A manga series adaptation by Aiya Kyū has also been released by Media Factory, with 23 volumes as of June 22, 2023.
The anime TV series adaptation, consisting of 25 episodes, was produced by Kinema Citrus and aired from January to June 2019. A second season of the anime series, co-produced by DR Movie, aired from April to June 2022. A third season is scheduled to premiere in October 2023. Currently, Crunchyroll holds the license for the anime series in North America.
Four young Japanese men, including Naofumi Iwatani, were summoned into a parallel world to become the world’s Cardinal Heroes and fight hordes of monsters called Waves. Each hero received a legendary piece of equipment upon being summoned. Naofumi received the Legendary Shield, while the others received weapons for attack.
Naofumi is different from the other heroes as he doesn’t receive support from the kingdom or has no allies. His only companion, the kingdom princess, betrays him by falsely accusing him of sexual assault, stealing all his belongings and leaving him without any help or resources.
After being unjustly treated by the nobility and rejected by his fellow Heroes and peasants, Naofumi becomes bitter and trains as a hero by himself while struggling to make a living. He eventually purchases a tanuki demi-human girl named Raphtalia and an egg from a slave trader. When the egg hatches into a bird-like monster, Naofumi calls it “Filo.” Both Raphtalia and Filo quickly grow into strong warriors under Naofumi’s guidance.
Naofumi and his companions are gradually earning the trust and gratitude of the people by performing heroic actions. Together, they are working towards fulfilling their mission as saviors while uncovering the mystery behind the Waves.
They aim to understand why the Waves threaten not just their world but other planets as well. The quest has continued successfully for two consecutive seasons and fans want from Shield Hero Season 3.

Shield Hero Season 3 Release Date
According to official sources, the series will continue its 3rd season in October 2023. The Rising of the Shield Hero season 3 is set to air in October 2023, as confirmed by the anime’s official website. Although the exact release date has not been announced, we can expect more information soon since October is only a few months away.
As we anticipated, Kinema Citrus will continue to be the main production studio for season 3 of The Rising of the Shield Hero, just like it was for the previous two seasons. However, DR MOVIE studio will not be a co-producer, as they were for season 2. Therefore, the animation quality should be comparable to the first season.

The main Shield Hero Season 3 cast is expected to reprise their roles for the upcoming season. We are expecting the following cast:

Shield Hero Season 3 Trailer
A new poster and teaser trailer for the third season of The Rising of the Shield Hero anime adaptation has been released to build excitement. Although there is no exact release date yet, the series is expected to return this October. From the teaser, Naofumi and his companions will face more challenges on their isekai adventure.
The first two seasons of The Rising of The Shield Hero, an isekai series, are currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The show follows Naofumi, who discovers that other nations also face the Calamity Waves and decides to join the fight.
Before he starts, he receives a message that the Spirit Tortoise, a huge monster, has been released and could destroy the world. He gathers his companions, Raphtalia and Filo, and some new allies. One of them brings frightening news: the release of the legendary beast was not accidental but the work of someone intentionally.
Shield Hero Season 3 Plot
The second season of The Rising of the Shield Hero had an arc called “Spirit Turtle,” where Naofumi and his group went to another world to defeat Kyo, who was the true cause behind the Tortoise Spirit disaster. The finale of season 2 showed Naofumi and the group returning to Melromarc to honor the spirit of Ost.
Season 3 of the anime would cover the story from light novel volume 10, but some parts of that volume were already covered in the previous season. Additionally, the pacing was criticized for skipping important content. As a result, we’re not sure what to expect from season 3.
Based on the trailer, The Rising of the Shield Hero season 3 appears to continue the story from the “Rebuilding Arc” as depicted in light novel volume 10. Naofumi and his party will return to the Seatto territory to help rebuild the villages.
As other spirits are expected to be resurrected, Naofumi plans to acquire more enslaved people and strengthen his army. To accomplish this, Naofumi and his team must journey to Zeltobe, a place where inhabitants of Lurolona village are frequently sold into slavery.
In disguise, Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo will enter an underground fighting arena. Additionally, the trailer revealed that the other three heroes have gone missing, leading to the “Fallen Hero Arc” in season shield hero 3 where Naofumi tries to find them and band together to protect against waves.
Myne, also known as “Witch,” will be back to prevent Naofumi from reaching out to the other three heroes.
Shield Hero Season 3 Episodes
The first season of The Rising of the Shield Hero had 25 episodes while the second one consisted of 20. We can expect a similar number of episodes in Shield Hero Season 3, between 20 and 25.
