The Mandalorian Season 3 will not be available on Disney Plus until February 2023. However, while we wait for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga, there’s still a lot to learn. For one thing, we’ve got an early look at Din Djarin assuming a leadership role from Pedro Pascal. Will There be Season 3 of The Mandalorian?
The Mandalorian season 3 is set to release on February 2023, as confirmed at the Star Wars Celebration. While an exact date is unknown, it’s safe to say that it’ll either come out on a Wednesday or Friday- most likely a Wednesday, given recent trends. So the earliest possible debut date would be February 1, with the latest being February 24.
The future is bright throughout the galaxy, far, far away. On August 31, Andor will premiere; season 2 of The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi will be released in Fall 2022. In 2023, we’ll receive Star Wars: Visions II and Ahsoka next year.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Cast
At this time, The Mandalorian season 3 cast hasn’t been ultimately decided. However, we know that Pedro Pascal will return as the title character, and his trusty sidekick Grogu (Baby Yoda) is also set to appear in the upcoming season. Fans were worried that filming for Pascal’s new show, The Last of Us TV series, would take up too much of his time and cause delays in production for The Mandalorian season 3, but recent reports say that filming is already underway.
Additionally, during an interview with EW, Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito revealed that fans can expect to see more of Gideon in Season three: “I have a feeling you’ll see more of me next season.” And then, “plus, several Moff Gideon.” So it’s not only ominous; it seems relatively inevitable.
Carl Weathers returns as Greef Karga in The Mandalorian season 3, which will air after The Mandalorian season 2 ends. Additionally, he confirmed at Steel City Con that he would be directing again. Katee Sackhoff reprises her role as Bo-Katan, and fans can expect her to try to claim the Darksaber for herself now that it is in Din’s hands. Rosario Dawson may also return as Ahsoka, but this has not been confirmed yet, and her status remains unclear after her cameo appearance in The Book of Boba Fett.
Sasha Banks has announced that she will not reprise her role as Koska Reeves in the Mandalorian season 3.

Gina Carano’s character, Cara Dune, was supposed to be one of the leading characters in Rangers of the New Republic. However, after recent social media activity by Ms Carano, LucasFilm has decided to cut all ties with her. As a result, she will not appear in season 3 of The Mandalorian and Rangers of the New Republic has been cancelled because Ms Carano was going to play a lead role.
What about Migs Mayfield, played by Bill Burr? The actor said in an interview with Screen Rant (opens in new tab), “Oh, I hope so. Both of the episodes I did were written by Jon Favreau and Rick Famuyiwa – to be a tiny part of something as big and meaningful to so many people. I’m not allowed to say anything more than I just love being on the show and hope it continues if it doesn’t, and I’ve had a lot of fun.”
Bryce Dallas Howard will helm the series for the first time since 2015’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. She directed two episodes of The Mandalorian and the well-received ‘Return of the Mandalorian’ in The Book of Boba Fett. Finally, in terms of directors, Babu Frik (the furry little creature from The Rise of Skywalker) will appear in The Mandalorian season 3.

The third season of The Mandalorian was officially announced at the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, where the trailer debuted behind closed doors. However, we had boots on the ground and have our own trailer description from the event: Bo-Katan appears to be unhappy that Mando has taken off his helmet – and he did it by choice.
Then bo-Katan sits upon a throne and declares her lack of enthusiasm for Mando. Din Djarin then vows to go to Mandalore to be “forgiven for his sins.” Greef Karga also makes an appearance, seeming to be the mayor of a small town in a gunfight.
Of course, there’s also footage of Baby Yoda and Mando reconciling again. Another alternate character in Mandalorian armour asks Grogu as the fight ends: “Did you believe your father was the only Mandalorian?” There was even a tiny spot of the film released in another panel. The new look at future episodes sees us seeing our first view of Mandalore in live action, with a spectacular Star Destroyer and even Din Djarin leading some Mandalorians into battle.
With three months until The Mandalorian season 3 is released, there may still be a wait to see it available to the general public.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Plot
The Mandalorian season 3 is still a ways off, but showrunner Dave Filoni has dropped the first hint of what we can expect: “There are going to be a lot of new activities. I need to be cautious; I can’t say anything specific, but I believe the Force will be with this, let’s say it’ll be strong.” While this doesn’t reveal much, it does sound like a Mando classic. Many narrative threads that have yet to be resolved could exist in The Mandalorian season 3.
As the trailer reveals, Mando and Bo-Katan’s competition for the Darksaber appears significant. In Chapter 16, Din claimed the Mandalore weapon as his own by defeating Moff Gideon in combat, which resulted in Bo-Katan having to beat Mando if she wanted it back.
There appeared to be a plot hole originating in The Clone Wars, which saw Sabine Wren give the Darksaber over to Bo-Katan without difficulty, but The Book of Boba Fett addressed it. With catastrophe impending, Bo-Katan’s rule as Mandalore ended, and the Armorer claims it’s all due to her getting the Darksaber rather than winning it. However, it appears Din is adamant about keeping the weapon, using it to pursue a bounty – and learning how to utilize it from the Armourer.
The season 3 trailer also appears to show Din leading a group of Mandalorians, and Pascal told Total Film about his character’s path as a leader in conversation with the publication. “If he is stepping into a leadership role, he is hesitant to do so,” said Pascal. “I don’t believe there’s anything more fascinating than seeing a person pushed into discovering who they are and what they’re capable of. So that bit has been intriguing for me.” Also, there are many searchable means to find that tone. I wanted to capture the nuances of this sort of character development.
Bo-Katan’s feelings on losing the Darksaber were more guarded, but she said, “I think you reconsider when you don’t achieve a goal.” It’s fascinating.
In season 2, Steve Blum describes Din’s quest for atonement in further detail. “We established in The Book of Boba Fett that there was a possibility for the Mandalorian to be redeemed,” he said on EW’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast (opens in new window). “And among his group of Mandalorians, that is not permissible. We now know that other Mandalorian camps have their own sets of rules.
Differences among the Mandalorians are explored in The Clone Wars, and we will continue to see this play out. Dave [Filoni] has done a fantastic job developing the characters and their backstory. These different groups have one thing in common – they are all exiled from their home world of Mandalore.”

Another key plot point is Grogu reuniting with Din. The Book of Boba Fett saw Baby Yoda caught at a crossroads between becoming a Jedi or staying with Papa Mando, though he chose the latter. It will be interesting to see if the youngling has any second thoughts or if Luke Skywalker will have an impact in The Mandalorian moving forward.
At GalaxyCon, Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito hinted at why the villain is so intent on getting Baby Yoda. “I am going to get this child,” he said, “and it’s for a very different reason than many think.”
The child on this show has been prophesied to have the ability to save the universe with their magical powers and is already 50 years old. It’s no wonder that the Empire is still after them. There’s a high probability that we’ll see more of the little green guy in future episodes.
Conclusion
Even though Gideon is apprehended, he might have one final plan. He’s been given information from an unknown individual at various points throughout the season, and he mentions it again during the season 2 finale. It won’t come as a surprise if the new Disney Plus season delves further into this connection. Could it be Thrawn?
Or is the Empire home to another prominent figure we haven’t heard about yet? Gideon has contacts in high places, evidenced by the Mando trailer’s inclusion of a Star Destroyer looming large.
