Succession: About the Series

Succession Season 4 Release Date

Succession is an American comedy-drama television series that premiered on June 3, 2018, on HBO. Created by Jesse Armstrong, the series centers around the fictional Roy family and their media conglomerate Waystar Royco. The show follows Logan Roy (Brian Cox), a billionaire who runs the company with his adult children Roman (Kieran Culkin), Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Siobhan “Shiv” (Sarah Snook) and Connor (Alan Ruck). It also stars Nicholas Braun as Greg Hirsch, Matthew Macfadyen as Tom Wambsgans, Natalie Gold as Rava Roy, J. Smith Cameron as Gerri Killman and Rob Yang as Lawrence Yee.

The premise of Succession is twofold: the question of who will take over Waystar Royco once Logan retires and how Logan’s four adult children, all vying for control of their father’s business, deal with each other. The show also examines themes such as power, money and ambition.

In its first season, Succession was a critical success, receiving numerous awards nominations and winning several awards, including an Emmy for Best Writing for a Drama Series. The second season premiered in August 2019 to even greater acclaim, and the show has been renewed through its fourth season.

Succession follows the lives of the Roy family members as they grapple with topics such as wealth disparity, media manipulation, corporate politics (many scenes are shot inside offices), power dynamics between family members and the challenges of succession planning. It is a fascinating exploration of the lives of the ultra-wealthy and the lengths they will go to maintain their power and influence.

The show has been praised for its sharp dialogue, wonderful performances, dark humor and complex characters. The series has also gained significant attention for its themes that resonate today, such as wealth inequality, corporate power, media manipulation and family dynamics. The series is a compelling show that continues to captivate audiences worldwide. And after 4 successful instalments, viewers eagerly await the finale i.e. Succession Season 5.

Unfortunately, we won’t see the original cast returning for the potential Season 5. However, certain original cast members might still appear due to their loyalty towards the show. Given that some of these characters have unfinished stories (think Gerri and Tom), they might return as guest stars in future instalments.
