As per reports, the Hindi version of the movie achieved an overall 57.91% occupancy across all theaters in India. On its initial day, “OMG 2” garnered a net collection of βΉ10.26 crore at the domestic box office, as confirmed by the producers on Saturday.

In the 2012 version of “OMG,” Paresh Rawal portrays a witty ‘naastik (atheist)’ character so convincingly that Krishna Vasudev Yadav from Gokul is compelled to descend to Earth to enlighten him about his misconceptions. The film cleverly critiques caste and creed, while also mocking religious opportunists from various backgrounds who take advantage of the credulous. A central character casually mentions the Gita, Bible, and Quran in the same context.
Entering “OMG 2” in 2023 was accompanied by apprehension. The contemporary India is distinct, marked by polarization. Could a film address religion and religious figures without turning didactic, preachy, or taking on a majoritarian tone? The sequel deftly avoids the complexity of diversity by embracing an incredibly progressive and liberal perspective. It does so masterfully, to the extent that we nearly overlook the absence of other faiths. The result is an engaging movie that questions the lack of trust that uninformed adults place (or rather, don’t) in the curiosity and candor with which young people explore the mysteries of their bodies. The film asserts that this exploration is natural and far from shameful, transcending any notion of ‘gandaa kaam’ or wrongdoing.
The film takes a clever approach by presenting its main character, Kanti Sharan Mudgal, as an unwavering devotee of Lord Shiva, a role that Pankaj Tripathi effortlessly embraces. Kanti’s unshakable faith is put to the ultimate test when his teenage son faces bullying and mistreatment at the hands of his school peers. To make matters worse, his teachers fail him after accusing him of engaging in ‘vulgar acts’. The actors have done complete justice with their roles and a hard hitting message through the storyline and dialogue delivery is what makes OMG 2 a hit.
