About US Customs and Border Protection:

United States Customs and Border Protection patrols all of our country’s borders, both land and sea equating to a distance of almost 8,000 miles which includes The Atlantic coast, the Pacific coast, the Gulf coast, the Great Lakes, the Canadian border, and the Mexican border. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers secure the border and prevent drug smuggling while enforcing immigration laws, protecting agriculture and ensuring trade compliance. Soldiers at US Border Protection Patrol work with determination and courage to safeguard national security and prosperity.

About the role:

CBP Officers will be held responsible for detecting and preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the U.S. They will conduct inspections of individuals and conveyances all around the clock and facilitate the flow of legitimate trade and travel. CBP Agriculture Specialists from the Office of Field Operations (OFO) would also intercept dangerous issues that threaten the health and safety of U.S. agriculture. Duties and Responsibilities of CBP Officers:

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture law and regulations
  • Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
  • Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
  • Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
  • Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
  • Conducting developmental level officer duties to protect the U.S. homeland, enforce federal laws, and efficiently facilitate legitimate trade and travel
  • Developing, planning, and participating in tactical operations
  • Interacting with carriers, other agencies and foreign entities to exchange information and provide guidance on admissibility/compliance

Requirements for CBP Officers:

  • Must have US citizenship.
  • A driver’s licence is mandatory.
  • Be referred for selection before your 40th birthday (waiver for veterans’ preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position).
  • Have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
  • Eligibility for carrying a firearm.
  • Travel enthusiast. Soldiers will be required to travel frequently. This job may require extended domestic and foreign temporary duty assignments.

  • Outstanding performers may receive cash awards as recognition for their superior efforts, funding permitting.
  • CBP officers may be eligible for premium pay for working on Sundays, holidays and night shifts.
  • CBP officers will be able to earn up to 25% of the given salary for time worked outside the 40-hour work week
  • Extra Pay for Designated Duty Locations.
